Közet is a growing independent newsroom, working with journalists and contributors around the world to report on Uyghurs and the issues that shape their lives.

We welcome journalists and contributors who want to work with us: reporters, writers, translators, and editors working in English, Uyghur, or Chinese. We are especially interested in people with direct knowledge of Uyghurs and of the regions and issues we cover.

Contributors work with Közet on a paid freelance basis. Everything we publish goes through editorial review and fact-checking, and must meet Közet’s standards for accuracy, fairness, independence, and responsible journalism.

How to get in touch

To introduce yourself or propose a story, email join@kozet.org with a short note about who you are, the languages you work in, your areas of expertise or interest, and links to your published work, if any. Please do not send full articles or finished work; we assign stories on the basis of proposals and introductions.

If contacting us could put you, your sources, or others at risk, take care with what you include in a first message. Do not send sensitive information through ordinary email. If you are unsure how to reach us safely, see our Contact page for guidance on secure communication.

We know that reporting on Uyghurs can carry real risks, including transnational repression. Contributors who could be endangered by publishing under their own names may write for us under a pen name. This does not lower the standards their work must meet: every piece is verified and edited before publication.
